Year of the Dragon 2024

Started with school's Festival of Cultures (our 2nd year attending), we made together this harder-than-I-thought paper dragon craft. Turned out it’s a really good investment because later on I used them to decorate the house for Lunar New Year and added on some string lights for Lantern Festival! For the years to come, they can be hand-held dragon dance for new year celebrations Woo-hoo!

At school's Festival of Cultures, for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebration (only one week apart in 2024), we brought our paper dragons. The hand-held dragon dance was really a big hit. Kids loved it!

First of all, I was shocked when realizing upon receiving that they are all flat pieces, NOT already assembled!! Kids helped me with cut-out pieces for me to use double-sided tape to put them together. Dragon heads are very 3D structural, requiring quite some efforts to fold, bend and press down for assembly…whew… In the end, to make the sticks attach to the dragon, “hot glue” is the ultimate option to apply! It works really well and both gragons actually survived the 3-hour-long Festival of Cultures lol.

After the school showcase, they were sitting on the table for two days until I put them on the stairs railing! It’s kinda cool to see them actually “flying”, isn't it!

Lunar New Year runs about two weeks until Lantern Festival. How about just adding some string lights on the flying dragons!

The battery box is a little big for these two little guys so I taped it to the dragon's tail for them to focus on holding the sticks. We walked in the neighborhood and introduced our crafts and holiday to our neighbors.
